Environmental Analysis
Heavy Metals and associated analysis for Contaminated Land and Environmental Investigation
The expertise of Sheffield Assay Office Analytical Services has many applications within the important area of Environmental Analysis.
Examples of the areas in which the services prove invaluable include: -
- Contaminated Land/Soils analysis
- Air monitoring/Personal sampler analyses
- Analysis of dusts, powders and residues
- Trace element determinations
- Effluent and process water control
- Quality control
- Impurity and contaminant monitoring
- Mercury screening
- IPPC – Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control analyses to assist in IPPC permit applications
Instrumentation
ICP-OES (Inductively
Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry)
This is state-of-the art analysis capable of reporting up to
56 elements simultaneously and is eminently suitable for as-supplied liquid
samples and samples that respond to dissolution.
XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence)
This is regarded as the standard for many applications of
major and trace element analysis., from fluorine to uranium.
AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrometry)
Dedicated spectrometers used for specific elemental analysis
and to support ICP-OES and XRF.
In addition, the traditional analytical procedures of titration, infra red (C and S), uv-vis, gravimetry and fire assay are routinely used.
TOPReporting
Reporting times and methods are agreed prior to analysis and are complied with.
Each sample must be assessed in order for a lead-time to be defined.
Reporting is by most electronic and physical means as requested.
