A piece of Civic history for Jubilee celebrations

28 May 2012

The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield accepted a very special medallion on Friday 27th April.  The silver medallion, designed and created by Sarah Stevenson, a graduate fromSheffieldHallamUniversity, is to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The medallion counterweight will be fixed to the Mayoress’s collarette that is worn on Civic occasions and during Mayoral events.

The Mayor’s office won the title of National Civic Office in 2011 and prize money from the awards has been used to fund the production of the medallion.

The design has been assayed (tested) and laser marked at the Sheffield Assay Office with an inscription of ‘Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee 2012’.

Councillor Peter Barr, Mayor of Chesterfield said: “The Queen’s Jubilee is a very special occasion so it’s very fitting that we should mark such an occasion with a piece of Civic regalia that can be worn for many years to come and will become part of Chesterfield Borough Council’s history.”
