08 Jun 2018

On the 7 June 2018 The Assay Master’s awarded two individuals who had shown outstanding work in their BA (Hons) Jewellery and Metalwork final year degree show.

Andrei Jakab received the Assay’s Master Prize for Excellence, a cheque for £500, Andrei’s work consisted of collection of objects  representing a set of curated mysteries that act as talismans of self-control. The pieces of jewellery were reminiscent of inflated bags, made from porcelain and combined within the tempting aspect of inflated foil pouches, creating a luxury mystery bag. The Assay Master  said “ Andrei has not only created  some amazing pieces of work but also a superb collection of photographs  and the branding that surrounds the collection being worn”

Hanyao Lin was awarded the special award for Design and Precision and presented with a  cheque for £250.00 for her unique jewellery range of brooches made from silver, with a range of parts that pinned together and decorated with brightly coloured elastic bands, gave her work a playful feel, very wearable and with a real commercial basis.

The standard of work this year was extremely high both in terms of the design and craftsmanship, pieces showed great skill, creativity and imagination. A vote of thanks was given to the tutors of the degree programme for their continued dedication to the jewellery and metalworking practice in the city.
