24 Jun 2013

A keen silversmith and mother Juliana, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer has created a unique solid sterling silver platter to raise money for the ‘Do Your Bit’ campaign. Juliana Haynes and a group of silversmith students from Hillsborough College, are ‘doing their bit’ to raise money for the £1.3 million appeal by producing a one-off piece of silverware. Once the piece was created the Sheffield Assay Office hallmarked it with a full set of marks including the Diamond Jubilee Hallmark.

Raffle tickets were sold during the Galvanize Festival of Contemporary Metal. The Raffle raised £725.00 and Westfield Health agreed to double it to £1450.00 which will go to Weston Park Cancer Charity.  The winning ticket was drawn by the Assay Master, Mr Ashley Carson, and the piece was officially presented to the winner Nina Merewood at the Sheffield Assay Office on Friday 21st June 2013.

Nina said “She was delighted to have won the piece and was looking forward to visiting the Sheffield Assay office to find out more about the laser hallmarking”.
