Double silver - celebrating 25 years’ service

25 Jul 2014

In July we were delighted to be able to mark a special milestone as two of our team completed 25 years’ service.

Tracey Smith, one of our lab technicians, has experienced a lot of personal change over the time she has worked with us. “It’s been quite a rollercoaster over the past 25 years: I’ve got engaged, got married, had a baby and seen them grow up. I’ve had a lot of laughs, been through some sad times and some worrying times,” she says.

She really appreciates the role that our team has played in her life throughout the past quarter of a century. “Through all that change, the one constant thing has been the knowledge that the people I work with are always there to either help me with work or to offer me a shoulder to cry on when needed,” says Tracey. “I consider myself really lucky to come to work knowing I’m part of a great team, but more importantly I have a second family that it’s great to be a part of.”

And what does the future hold? “After 25 years I still enjoy my job, but I also love the people I work with. That’s why I’m still here and happy to stay.”

Paul Whitehead joined us straight from school and has also just celebrated his quarter century. “I started work here as a junior assayer, and have moved up through the ranks,” he says. “These days I’m a team leader in the furnace rooms.”

What are his favourite memories from his time with Sheffield Assay Office? “To be honest, they probably all revolve around my work colleagues, as we’ve all spent lots of time together and shared a lot of good experiences,” says Paul. “Other than that, I always appreciate the times when I get good feedback from customers on doing a good job: that’s very satisfying.”

It’s always pleasing to be able to reward long service from members of our team, but especially so when their outstanding memories of working here revolve around the support and encouragement they have received from their colleagues. It’s a timely reminder of why the Sheffield Assay Office is such a special place to work.
