Long-serving David marks his thirty year milestone

22 Jul 2015

Today (22 July) is a very significant one for David Beresford as he celebrates completing 30 years’ service at Sheffield Assay Office.

David joined us after he completed a year at Huddersfield Polytechnic studying HND Chemistry and decided that he wished to begin his career instead.

He started working in the gold cupellation balance room/furnace room, before moving into our Analytical Services department. “In Analytical Services my responsibilities involved dissolving and analysing precious metals,” explains David. “The dissolving techniques have mostly stayed the same over the years but the instrumentation has changed from large single element manual instruments to small multi-element auto sampler instruments.” The other biggest change David has noted during his time at Sheffield Assay Office was when we moved premises.

His most outstanding memory of working here is the Queen’s visit in 1986, to open the then new Guardians Hall building. “I was standing to attention in the furnace room when she walked in front of me,” says David. “Everybody was given a photo of themselves with the Queen on and received a silver medal."

We’re very grateful to David for his thirty years of dedicated service. His hard work and loyalty is much appreciated by all the colleagues who have worked with him during that time.

“Thirty years has flown by,” says David. “I can’t believe it!”
