Meet the team – Danny Smith

25 Nov 2014

Danny Smith

Danny Smith originally joined Sheffield Wednesday FC straight from school as an apprentice and had a year as a professional footballer. Unfortunately for him he didn’t make the grade long-term, but football’s loss was our gain and he swapped chasing silverware for hallmarking silverware when he joined Sheffield Assay Office 16 years ago.

Danny is another well-established member of our team and his role as Punch Controller/Assistant Production Manager is very varied and covers a wide range of responsibilities. He advises new customers on what hallmarking punches they need, distributes punches to staff, hallmarks many different items and oversees coin production. He particularly enjoys the variety of different tasks he takes on and dealing with customers on a daily basis.

When he’s not working, Danny loves to travel and makes the most of the fact that his family members live in some desirable holiday destinations. He visited his younger sister in Sydney, Australia for a couple of months and was able to travel around the country with his first ever scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef being a particular highlight of that trip. He also enjoys regular visits to see his mum who lives in Brittany, France and makes the most of the opportunity to relax in quiet rural surroundings, eat cheese and drink red wine!

Apart from holidays, Danny relaxes by cooking, going out for meals with his girlfriend, catching up with his friends over a few drinks. He’s also still a loyal Sheffield Wednesday FC fan and season ticket holder but he does admit that feels more like a chore than a pleasure most of the time!

We really appreciate Danny’s hard work and commitment in his role and we’re delighted to have him as a key member of our team at SAO.
