Meet the team – Sue Laycock

31 Mar 2015

Sue LaycockReceipt & Despatch Assistant by day; Fashion Designer by night!

Sue Laycock studied at Stocksbridge High School and gained an A grade in Art before attending Sheffield College to gain a BTEC National Diploma in Fashion Design.

She has been at Sheffield Assay Office for almost 5 years and works as a Receipt & Despatch Assistant/Progress Assistant. As part of the team responsible for dealing with all incoming articles for hallmarking and testing, Sue’s role involves counting and weighing the items and recording all relevant information onto our computer system to ensure that the correct marks are applied. She then checks, weighs out and carefully repacks items once they have been marked. She also deals with local customers at our customer counter, helps out on our main reception desk and is one of our trained First Aiders.

Sue says that one of the best things about working at Sheffield Assay Office is the working environment and she enjoys working with colleagues who have become good friends over the years. Her proudest moment so far was being chosen as part of our team to help set up and open our Assay Office in Milan in May 2014 and she has been back to work in the Milan office several times since.

When she’s not working Sue enjoys travelling. Her favourite holiday destination is Cornwall where she loves going for walks and exploring. She hopes to take her son with her to Australia one day to visit some of her friends who have moved there.

Apart from holidays, Sue enjoys designing and making clothes, curtains and cushion covers and also makes clothing alterations. A proud mum, she loves spending time with her son Louis who is currently taking his GCSEs and studying Mechanical Engineering at UTC Sheffield.

Sue is a very versatile and enthusiastic member of our team and we really appreciate everything she brings to her role at Sheffield Assay Office.
