Team Member – Matthew Wood

Role with SAO – Analytical Services Team Leader

Matt Wood - Analytical Services Team LeaderMatthew Wood, or Matt as he is prefers to be known, completed a BSC (Hons) Environmental Services degree at the University of Derby in 2002. He then started working for SAO within our gold cupellation and bullion melting foundry. Over the last 10 years he has steadily worked his way up the ladder to his current position as Analytical Services Team Leader.

His main responsibilities within this role are to offer technical support and advice to the AS Department, as well as interpreting analytical data gathered from various techniques and reporting results back to our customers. He helps maintain the professional face of the AS Dept. by dealing with client enquires via phone, email and at the customer counter. Matt also works to maintain the UKAS accreditation of the laboratory by carrying out systematic audits of our quality system.

Matt describes himself as a ‘smiley’ person and is a keen walker, visiting the Peak District whenever time allows. He is a seasoned festival goer which allows him to enjoy his passions for travel and music. So far this year he has visited Glastonbury, Tramlines and We Are FSTVL and is already planning a trip to Barcelona’s Sonar Festival next year. Matt is a bit of a film buff and appreciates a good horror, sci-fi, foreign and anime film. He regards Battle Royale, The Shining and The Thing as his favourites. Continuing with this theme he also enjoys popular US TV series, The Walking Dead, American Horror Story and Breaking Bad.

Not surprisingly five things Matt could not live without are Family, Friends, Music, Films and Haribo, and his favourite quote is "In my opinion, we don't devote nearly enough scientific research to finding a cure for jerks.",  from the classic comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes, by American cartoonist Bill Watterson.
