Rob Short

Rob happy to be back where he belongs

Rob Short has recently re-joined the team at Sheffield Assay Office and we are delighted to have him back with us. He has been working here for a month now, but his previous stint lasted almost 20 years!

Rob says that he is very happy to be back working with precious metals again and has enjoyed being reunited with some ‘old’ colleagues as well as forming good working relationships with the new team who have made him feel very welcome.

Before joining Sheffield Assay Office originally, Rob studied at Chesterfield College of Art and Design where he achieved an Advanced City and Guilds in Silversmithing.

Rob is our Assistant Progress Manager which means he is responsible for coin production and helping the Production Manager to ensure that the process of hallmarking goods runs smoothly and efficiently.

Rob’s favourite memory from his original stint working at Sheffield Assay Office was meeting the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh when they visited several years ago.

When he’s not at work Rob enjoys going on holiday where he likes to relax, visit local sites, enjoy the local culture and even try to speak the local language (but not always successfully!). He has been to some fantastic destinations and particularly enjoyed a recent trip to Dubai.

Apart from holidays Rob enjoys spending time with his family and friends and enjoys good food and wine, although he admits that wine gums are his guilty pleasure! He also enjoys sport and has completed several half marathons and qualified as a scuba diver some years ago, although he says he only likes diving in warm water these days.

We’re very grateful to have Rob back with us and look forward to his continued contribution of expertise, enthusiasm and dedication to Sheffield Assay Office.
