Sheffield Assay Office marks Heritage Open Day with latest talk and tour

12 Sep 2014

Aaron Walker - Milan OPS Manager On Friday 12th September, Sheffield Assay Office celebrated the Heritage Open Day initiative by holding the latest in our talk and tour series. We were pleased to join with 60 other historical venues in Sheffield to open our doors to the public on that day.

Emma Paragreen, Curator and Librarian gave an illustrated talk about the history of Assay Offices and the work of Sheffield Assay Office. This was followed by a tour of the premises led by her colleague Dr Belen Morales, Head of Analytical Services who was on hand to describe the work carried out in the Laboratories.

The talk and tour event was well received by many local people, who were keen to learn more about the history and work of the Sheffield Assay Office.

“I really enjoyed the tour - it was very interesting,” said Mrs Jean Mills from Barnsley. “I was not fully aware of the variety and breadth of the work undertaken by Sheffield Assay Office.” Mrs Mills said she would be recommending the talk and tour to her husband.

Mrs Jones from Sheffield was also impressed. “This was a very interesting and informative visit,” she said. “It was great to see a well-structured presentation on the history of the company, rather than just an introductory film, and it was followed by a wonderful tour of the facilities.”

If you are interested in making a visit, you can book as an individual or a group. The next public talk and tour is Friday 28th November 2014, 10:00am–12:30pm and costs £10.00 per person.
