Treasures Unveiled at Sheffield Assay Office

Sheffield Assay Office welcomed over 35 SCR Female Entrepreneurs and Directors to an evening of ‘Treasures and Tours’ on Tuesday 18th June. The evening was a great success and showcased the work of Sheffield Assay Office and their Analytical Services department.
The ladies were welcomed by the Assay Master, Ashley Carson and were given a tour of the facilities, before a number of short presentations from Dr Belan Morales about the work of the Analytical Services department. The event was organised by Jill White of Andy Hanselman Consulting and Helen Dimmick. Helen has recently been appointed as a Guardian of the Sheffield Assay Office and is working with our team on bespoke training and development focused on our exceptional levels of customer service.
Helen spoke of Jewellery treasures, the significance and meaning of precious metal and jewels and brought to life those forgotten items often hidden in the bottom of a jewellery box, or items that we wear that provide us with huge sentimental significance.
The wonderful meal on a precious metal theme and drawing on elements of the Sheffield Assay office hallmarks, was provided by PJ Taste. Our sincere thanks to Peter, Tracy and the team. The food bedecked with symbolic roses and crowns was both a feast for the eyes and delight for the taste buds!
After the meal, guests were invited into the inspirational Library to meet with Emma Paragreen, Curator of the Sheffield Assay Office Precious Metals Collection, where exclusive access was granted to some historic and contemporary treasures. Both exquisite items of jewellery and silverware were showcased and their meaning was revealed by Emma thanks to her exceptional breadth of knowledge
Jill White said “Oh my goodness some of the pieces were sooo exquisite”.
Helen Dimmick spoke of the evening, saying “what a spectacular evening to present to such an esteemed audience. It was an honour to share the aesthetic and symbolic world of jewellery treasure and in the location of one the City’s biggest hidden treasures - The Sheffield Assay Office”
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
