On the 9th of March 2017, Sheffield Assay Office welcomed a good mix of people to its yearly open day. The day was packed with various activities as it was also a celebration of the company’s 34 years achievement of continuous ISO 17025.
In the spirit of celebration, attendees were treated to the history of Sheffield Assay Office and the hallmarking department, delivered by Emma Parageen (Curator, Librarian & Archivist).
A presentation on the range of services on offer at the analytical department was delivered by Dr. Belen Morales (Head of Analytical Services). Attendees were also treated to a talk on ISO 17025, SAO UKAS Accreditation and LIMS system, all of which are regulatory factors emplaced to manage and guide the activities of the Analytical Services department.
In addition to the presentation/ talk, attendees were given the opportunity to explore the Sheffield Assay Office. The Hallmarking tour gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the different processes of assaying and hallmarking of precious metals at SAO. The Analytical services tour provided each attendee with an opportunity to explore the laboratory, see the equipment’s used for different testing and meet analytical services team.
The tour was met with an enthusiastic response and staff were pleased to answer many questions about the various equipment at the laboratory and hallmarking department.
