Sheffield Assay Office has secured the future of Bradbury's Book of Hallmarks, by taking over its publication on licence from the Bradbury family. This handy pocket reference book has been in print since 1927. Originally compiled by Frederick Bradbury, one of the descendants of the first Sheffield Assay Master, Daniel Bradbury, with assistance from Bernard Watson - Assay Master 1898-1941, the book was in danger of going out of print. This new partnership has ensured its survival into the 21st century.
It provides a fascinating and comprehensive guide to marks of origin on English, Scottish & Irish silver, gold and platinum and on foreign imported silver & gold plate - 1544 to 2010. Old Sheffield Plate makers marks - 1743 to 1860 and information on the latest legislation are also featured.
