250th Anniversary Exhibition at Millenium Gallery

Sheffield Assay Office were delighted to host a celebration event at Sheffield's Millenium Gallery in honour of our 250th anniversary.

We were delighted to be joined by 140 guests, supporters, customers, colleagues and friends at Millennium Gallery, on Wednesday 15th November for a drinks and canape reception. Sheffield Assay Office have worked in partnership with the Sheffield Museum Trust for over 20 years since the gallery opened and it was a fitting place to hold the event, alongside the current Assay Office exhibition that features special objects from Sheffield Assay Office, Sheffield Museums Trust and Sheffield Archives. The display will run until September 2024, so don't worry if you haven't seen it yet - there's still plenty of time to visit.

Speeches were given by the Assay Master Ashley Carson, Master Cutler and Chairman of Sheffield Assay Office, Charles Turner and CEO of Sheffield Museum Trust, Kim Streets. Sheffield Assay Office presented the museum with a cheque for £5,000 to support the work of the Trust; a lasting legacy of the office’s commitment to supporting metalworking in the city.

Speaking of the event, Mr Carson said; "A great evening was had by all and it was wonderful to be able to welcome trade, and friends of the Sheffield Assay Office to Sheffield Museums Trust, Millennium Galley to celebrate this historical milestone for the office."

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
