Adapting to Change in the Jewellery industry

As we head towards another Christmas season, whilst there is a lot happening in day to day lives, there is also a lot happening within the jewellery industry. Many companies are launching new ranges, becoming more sustainable where possible and telling their stories. Enhancing the consumer shopping experience is key to ensure that they continue to move forwards despite these difficult times. It is important that companies continue to invest to capture their sales and create the memories that are treasured forever.

Over the last few months we have discussed the growth in lab grown diamonds and more companies are producing new collections as well as manufacturing bespoke items.

There is also a strong push in the marketplace towards sustainability and transparency in the supply chains. Fairtrade and Fairmined gold are becoming more popular again and more companies are working with other options such as Single Mine Origin Gold.  This is available in the UK market and Boodles have just launched their own range with the provenance back to the mine. Many more companies are listening closely to consumers and determining what is driving their purchases.

From the other perspective there are also many companies supporting recycled materials and everything they use is 100% recycled.

These are obviously very different stand points but both are important in the marketplace as the consumer decides what is important to them.

Some companies are supporting specific countries and communities, such as planting a tree with every purchase of their products.

Marketing is key to all the above, explaining what each offer stands for a why the consumer may want to choose that option. It is great to see all the different initiatives taking place to enhance the reason to purchase jewellery items.

As always, we stress the importance of ensuring that all products sold fit within the legal parameters set by the industry. At Sheffield Assay Office we pride ourselves on our integrity which ensures transparency and understanding and giving our customers the confidence in the products they are selling. For any advice or questions including hallmarking, analytical testing or diamond testing please contact us at info@assayoffice.co.uk or 0114 231 2121.
