Assay Master's Prize for Excellence awarded at Sheffield Hallam University Institute of Arts

The Assay Master awarded three individuals who had shown outstanding work in their BA (Hons) Jewellery and Metalwork final year degree show on Thursday 14th June 2019.
Xueze Zhang received the Assay Master's Prize for Excellence, a cheque for £400. Emily Drabble and Georgia Clipsham were awarded two prizes of £200, Emily for recognition of design, commercial awareness and consideration to batch production and Georgia in Recognition of combining emerging technology and traditional handmade skills.
Xueze, Emily and Georgia said “we are shocked but delighted to have won the prizes”.
16 students were exhibiting work as part of their final year degree show from the BA Jewellery and Metalwork course at Sheffield Hallam University. The show was a truly an international show with students from the UK, India, China and Hong Kong. The Assay Master, Mr Ashley Carson said “The highlights for me have been the Diversity and Imagination used, and also some of the inspiration in creating the pieces. The overall finish and attention to detail on the work is also very impressive, which is in my opinion vital when selling products and impressing potential customers. I would also like to congratulate you all on the photographs and creative brochures that have been produced. It has been a tough year for judging”
This is the 24th year that the Assay Master has awarded prizes and continued to support the degree programme, providing the students with an annual visit to the Sheffield Assay Office, supplying silver to make their final year degree show pieces and offering free hallmarking.
A vote of thanks was given to the tutors and technicians.
The work will be on display in the Sheffield Institute of Arts, Sheffield Hallam University from 15th – 25th June 2019, for further details visit www.shu.ac.uk/
The work will then be displayed at New Designer in London from 26th – 29th June, Stand JC16.
