On Friday 17th May 2024, staff from Sheffield Assay Office took up the Master Cutler's Challenge.
Twenty members of the Assay office team completed an 11 mile walk in the Hope Valley, starting from Hope Railway Station and walking to Castleton, Cave Dale and Mam Tor, before leaving Losehill for some well earned refreshments.
The fundraising group, including Assay Master, Ashley Carson, Head of Analytical Services, Dr Belen Morales, Accounts Manager, Jonathan Hristov and Librarian/Curator/Archivist, Emma Paragreen and the whole team were especially delighted to be joined by the Master Cutler himself at the end of the walk.
A whopping £1,200 was raised which will go towards the Master Cutler’s chosen charities, Sheffield Cathedral Schools Singing Programme and The Cutlers’ Hall Preservation Trust.
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
