Celebrating Sheffield at Goldsmiths North 2023

Sheffield Assay Office were delighted to sponsor this year's Goldsmiths North, which took place at Cutlers' Hall at the start of July. We are thrilled to say that the event was a huge success!

Goldsmiths North is an annual jewellery and silversmithing event that showcases the work of independent makers who specialise in contemporary jewellery and silverware design. The event is organised by Kat Payne, along with Rebecca H Joselyn and Brett Payne, both of whom are experienced jewellery makers and curators, based in Sheffield.

The event takes place over three days where visitors can see and purchase unique pieces of jewellery and silverware directly from the makers. Visitors are also able to learn about the techniques and processes used in jewellery and silverware making by meeting the makers of these exquisite pieces and other fascinating members of the trade.

This year, the event showcased the work of over 50 of the finest jewellers and silversmiths from across the country, attracting more visitors than ever before. We're so pleased to report that initial analysis of feedback from exhibitors shows a significant sales increase on last year. It's been wonderful to hear such positive feedback and we're delighted that so many visitors took home a special, one of a kind item.

Visitors came from across the region and beyond to meet the makers and take a look at their individually made pieces, ranging in value from £150 to £50,000. Many of the event's exhibitors are also expecting follow-up sales and commissions, in addition to sales that were made throughout the event.

Goldsmiths North also provided the opportunity for both the Sheffield Assay Office, and Dame Julie Kenney, The Master Cutler, to entertain the Prime Warden of The Goldsmiths’ Company to dinner with his guests.
