July’s First Tuesday Breakfast was hosted by the Sheffield Assay Office, this historic Sheffield Institution was a great venue, and attendees were treated to a morning of insight and meaningful conversation, speakers included:

  • Emma Paragreen Curator and Librarian, The Assay Office History of Consumer protection from an Assay Offices point of view. Emma shared a fascinating look into the rich history of hallmarking, consumer protection and how people can support the trade.

  • Nicola Childs, Rise 25: Nurturing the next generation of talent, Nicola’s presentation gave us a comprehensive viewpoint on the different generations in the workplace, and how to attract and retain your team. There was a strong emphasis on wellbeing and work life balance.
  • Martin McKervey introduced The Baton of Hope and
  • Mike McCarthy who gave us the background on the charity and how it all started with the loss of his son to suicide. This initiative is a powerful symbol for mental health awareness, aiming to break the stigma and encourage open conversations around mental wellbeing. Our thanks to Kevin Parkin for chairing and Anne Wilson MBE for her organisation of the event. It was great to be able to bring together early risers to the Sheffield Assay Office to share breakfast and network.

Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
