Exceptionally talented SHU students receive Assay Master's Recognition Awards

On 25th September Assay Master Ashley Carson was delighted to present three prizes to graduating students from the Sheffield Hallam University MA Jewellery and Metalwork course.  The evening showcased the work of the students from the MA and were joined by Head of Department Roger Bateman, Head of Art & Design, lecturers and tutors Maria Hanson, Chris Knight, along with key members of the Jewellery & Metalwork community.

Prizes were awarded by the Assay Master to the following students:

Assay Masters Recognition Award 
1st Prize went to Zuer Wu who received £400 for ‘Botanical Resistance’ showcasing environmental and ethical biodiversity. The question raised ‘How do visual representations of marginal plants in contemporary jewellery, communicate environmental concerns and urban ecological resilience?’ This work was distinctive and well executed.

Assay Masters Recognition Award Highly Commended Runner up awards:
Awards of £250 each were made to Caodi Fang for "Do not ask for help, how jewellery can be used to generate laughter through tickling?

And to Yumeng Huang for work entitled ‘Out of hand’. Both works caught the eye of judges.

Chris Knight, Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University said "Huge thanks for the support from the Assay Master and Sheffield Assay Office, the students were suitably excited and delighted to have been awarded prizes and the evening was a great success."

Ashley Carson, Assay Master and CEO said "Their enthusiasm and passion for the subject was evident and we wish them every success with their future careers."
