Local Artists Visit Sheffield Assay Office Archives

Artist, Yuen Fongling and Designer, Jon Cannon visited Sheffield Assay Offfice recently to undertake research in our library and archives.

Yuen is also a Curator, Researcher and Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University and is currently working on his 20/20 artist commission for Sheffield Museums Trust. Our Archivist and Librarian, Emma Paragreen was on hand to help the visitors with their research, they were both fascinated by the hallmarks and use of symbols.

We were delighted to welcome Yuen and Jon to our premises and look forward to seeing the final works in the City Centre later in the year.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
