Lord Mayor of Sheffield Visits Assay Office
Published: 25th July 2024
Sheffield Assay Master, Ashley Carson, was honoured this month to receive The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Jayne Dunn.
Councillor Dunn is the 127th Lord Mayor of Sheffield, and only the 20th woman. She previously represented the Southey ward since 2016 and has been in the Chamber for 12 years.
The Assay Master gave the Lord Mayor a full tour of our state of the art facility, when she was able to hear about our Office's 250+ year history and meet a number of members of staff.
The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
