Lunchtime Talk: Precious Little Gems

Published: 21st September 2022

The Yorkshire Artspace Silversmiths Starter Studio programme launched in back 2002 and throughout the programme, Sheffield Assay Office has sponsored an annual commission titled Precious Little Gems.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the programme and commissions, a new display in Sheffield's Millennium Gallery foyer shows a selection of pieces, highlighting the diversity and range of work produced. The display includes the 2021 commission, created by Georgia Rose Clipsham.

On Tuesday 27th September at 1pm, you can join our Curator, Emma Paragreen for a talk all about some of the commissions over the last 20 years. You’ll also hear from Georgia Rose Clipsham about her unique commission, a set of three functional vases, inspired by Kangxi miniatures and Claudia Rankin’s ceramic caddies, incorporating her signature chain making.

The programme and the commission opportunity has marked the start of many careers, with participants successfully becoming practicing silversmiths in Sheffield and around the UK.

If you are interested in finding out more or would like to support the next generation of Silversmiths and Jewellers, come along to the talk or contact Yorkshire Artspace info@artspace.org.uk.
