Sheffield Assay Office Attend Benevolent Society Charity Ball

Sheffield Assay Office were delighted to attend the Benevolent Society Ball on Thursday the 7th of December at The Grand Hotel in Birmingham.

The Benevolent Society is a charitable society of the British Allied Trade Federation.  The Society ensures that old and worthy personnel who have worked within the associated trades, and given long and faithful service, have a particular charity to whom they may turn to in case of need.

The Ball, which is held annually, is one of the events that helps to raise funds for those in need.  It is a fantastic event attended by many of our industry friends and colleagues.

During the evening there were also 2 awards presented.  The Halo Award which is supported by the British Hallmarking Council and the National Association of Jewellers and is awarded to businesses who promote the importance of the hallmark to all consumers browsing and buying fine jewellery or silverware online.  Our Assay Master, Ashley Carson was delighted to be one of the judges for this award, as consumer protection is something that we are passionate about at Sheffield Assay Office and encourage across the industry.  The winners were Harriet Kelsall Fine Jewellery and Anna Mcloughlin Fine Jewellery.

Beaverbrooks also received an award as they were named winners of the National Chairs Award.  This is awarded to an individual or business in recognition of their professionalism and dedicated service to the jewellery industry.

It is important that by bringing members of the trade together we continue to support these worthy causes and help those in need wherever possible.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
