Office Closed for a Day of 250th Celebration - Friday 15th September

Published: 31st August 2023

Sheffield Assay Office Closed: Friday 15th September

Please note that Sheffield Assay Office will be closed on Friday 15th September to allow staff to celebrate the office's 250th anniversary. The Office will reopen as normal on Monday 18th September.

Speaking of the occasion, Assay Master Ashley Carson said; "I would like to say that we are closed on Friday 15th of September for "staff training", but in truth, we're actually closing to give our ever hard-working teams the opportunity to have some very well deserved time out to celebrate the Office's momentous 250th Anniversary.

So, we will remain closed on Friday 15th whilst we all enjoy a well-earned day out at Doncaster Races as part of the St. Ledger Week, but please rest assured that (after a whole weekend of recouperation) we will back bright eyed and eager to work for all our lovely customers on Monday 18th September.

I hope you will all understand and support us in celebrating this very special occasion."

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
