Sheffield Assay Office Coronation Weekend Closing Times

Leading up to His Majesty King Charles III coronation on Saturday 6th May 2023, all staff here at Sheffield Assay Office will be starting celebrations early and our Office, including the Customer Counter, will be closed from 1.30 pm on Friday 5th May, reopening again as normal on Tuesday 9th May.

On behalf of the Chairman, Assay Master, Guardians and Executive members of Sheffield Assay Office, we would like to send our very best wishes to His Majesty King Charles III, heir to the throne for 70 years, and Her Royal Highness, Queen Consort Camilla, on the day of the Coronation, when they will be officially crowned in a magnificent and deeply religious ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Long Live the King.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
