Published: 28th December 2018

Sheffield Assay Office is a popular venue for organisations and groups - both those who already have a special interest in silver and hallmarking and those who appreciate an unusual and memorable day out.

Whether you are a group of friends, a club or an organisation, you will find that our fascinating history, library resources and stunning silver collection combine perfectly with the modern, comfortable facilities at Guardians' Hall to make the occasion a success - and one to remember.

" On behalf of the whole of our group I wish to thank you for making our visit so interesting. On our way home everyone was talking about it and saying how much they had enjoyed it and how informative it had been, both your presentation and the 'factory' tour. Thank you once again and please thank all the staff that took time to explain things to us.''

- Elsie Walton, Wakefield & District Family History Society.

From a short tour and talk to full day in-depth specialist workshops, we have courses to meet all levels of interest and we can offer you a range of sessions with our Librarian/Curator covering all aspects of the Sheffield Assay Office and its work.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
