This important annual Awards Ceremony, also known as the Jewellery Oscars, was hosted by Rachael Taylor and welcomed more than 300 guests, including representatives from world-renowned jewellery houses, sponsors, industry associations and leading designers.

This annual competition rewards excellence in technical skills and creative design in precious metals and related materials. Sheffield Assay Office are proud supporters of The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GC&DC), which operates the competition, actively encourages established craftspersons and designers in the industry, as well as apprentices and students to enter their work.

The event was attended by our Assay Master, Ashley Carson. Key highlights of the evening included the presentation of The Lifetime Achievement Award to Malcolm Appleby for his outstanding contribution and commitment to the jewellery profession. The College Trophy was presented to Birmingham City University and the Senior Award was presented to Alexandra Raphael for the Lace Plique-a-jour bowl. The Junior Award went to Martina Grumitt, a diamond mounter, for the Ballerina Hibiscus Dress Brooch and finally, The Theo Fennell Apprentice & Master Award went to Lewis Towens (Apprentice) and Paul Towens (Master) for Lewis’ Gentleman’s Box.

We would like to offer huge congratulations to the winners and organisers of this fantastic event.

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
