Very Sad Death of Longest Serving Staff Member - Conal Grant

It was with a heavy heart that Assay Master, Ashley Carson announced the very recent, sad passing of Sheffield Assay Office's longest serving member of staff, Conal Grant.

Conal joined the office on 4th June, 1979 and during his time working at Sheffield Assay Office he became a very versatile and valuable member of the team, being able to both hallmark and operate the XRF testing machines.

Mr Carson said "Conal was a much loved member of staff and would be seen most lunchtimes playing pool in the office staff room, hussling his fellow team mates on the table. He will be sadly missed by everyone here at Sheffield and our thoughts and prayers go out to Conal's family and friends at this very sad time."

The Sheffield Assay Office was established in 1773, under an Act of Parliament and today the company assays and hallmarks the precious metals - silver, gold, platinum and palladium. Sheffield Assay Office is one of only four UK assay offices who all work to uphold the Hallmarking Act of 1973 and continue to ensure consumer protection for customers purchasing precious metals.
