Sheffield Assay Office were delighted to attend the presentation of this year's Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship & Design Awards as it returned to Goldsmiths’ Hall in London on Monday 28th February.

On Sunday 27th February, family, friends and colleagues gathered at Sheffield Cathedral to pay their respects to Stan Shaw. Stan died on 26th February 2020 after almost 80 years of manufacturing the most exquisitely beautiful, hand-made pen and pocket knives for rock stars, royalty and the general public.

When purchasing pre-owned jewellery, it is important to know what is being bought and that the item is authentic.  It may have some paperwork to accompany it, but this is often not the case.  This is an area that Sheffield Assay Office specialises in, ensuring that products are what they claim to be.

Every summer, Goldsmiths North brings the finest contemporary silverware and jewellery to the heart of Sheffield for one weekend only, in association with the Sheffield Assay Office and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in the City of London.

We have all been truly saddened by the situation in the Ukraine and the images that we are now unfortunately seeing on a daily basis. It has therefore been amazing to see how the jewellery trade has reacted quickly and pulled together to raise funds to help those affected.

Over the last few years it has become clear that Laboratory Grown Diamonds are here to stay and there has been a lot of research carried out to understand what drives sales of both natural diamonds and laboratory grown diamonds and what is important to the consumer. Whilst many people believe that the laboratory grown diamond market is where the consumer looks at sustainability, it is clear that there has been much progress made in also ensuring that this is the case across the natural diamond market.
