This month here at Sheffield Assay Office, Assay Master Ashley Carson hosted the Standing Technical Committee of the International Hallmarking Convention.

The Silver Society is pleased to announce the launch of its Annual Prize for 2025. The Prize of £2,000 will be awarded to a silversmith working in the UK who is within the first five years of their career as a practising silversmith. The winner and runner-up will be offered free membership of the Silver Society for three years.

This year 4 students, each following their own path and evolving their practices in the subject were assessed at the The Festival of Creativity - Product Design, Interior Architecture & Design, and Jewellery, Materials & Design Degree Show.

A team of 20 Sheffield Assay Office staff and friends completed a figure of eight route around Derwent Reservoir, Howden Reservoir and Ladybower and the lost villages trail, totalling 15.5 miles, on the 2025 Master Cutler's Challenge in aid of dementia support.

The British Hallmarking Council (BHC) recently issued a press release in relation to the importance of hallmarking as a consumer protection, and the recognition of the hallmarking enforcement work being done by Trading Standards organisations in the UK, through the Touchstone Award.
