A very special tiny visitor popped into Sheffield Assay Office this week.

Sheffield's Guardians of the Standard of Wrought Plate, Canon Keith Farrow and Curator Emma Paragreen, recently gave a special lecture to the Cawthorne Jubilee Museum Society, sharing the history and work of Sheffield Assay Office in its 250th anniversary year.

To celebrate our 250th anniversary last year, we created a timeline to document the long and proud history of Sheffield Assay Office. It was amazing to start at 1773 and work through all the historical events that have happened since, and shaped both the industry and the office.

The Sheffield Assay Office team were delighted to take part in the judging of this year's Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council Awards. Assay Master Ashley Carson and Curator Emma Paragreen were part of a panel that judged the award for 2D hand Rendering.

The British Hallmarking Council are seeking to appoint a Secretary to the BHC to be in post as soon as possible. The person appointed in this critical role will help support the British Hallmarking Council’s vital mission and contribute to the UK’s hallmarking excellence. 

The 70th edition of Vicenzaoro took place in January 2024 and the event was a record-breaker! There was a 3% increase in attendance over January 2023, which had already been the best attended fair to date.
