An amazing 40 year anniversary was celebrated this week, when managers and staff gathered to congratulate Senior Laboratory Technician, Dave Beresford.

We were delighted to host July’s First Tuesday Breakfast Meeting of the Company of Cutlers of Hallamshire here at Sheffield Assay Office where guests were treated to a morning of insight and meaningful conversation.

Sheffield Assay Office were delighted to facilitate a tour of the production area and library for Freeman College, Sheffield students as they dropped in some end of term work for assay and hallmarking.

London Trading Standards – a collective of trading standards teams from the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Camden, Westminster, Hackney, Ealing, Waltham Forest, and Newham, and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea – have been awarded the British Hallmarking Council’s (BHC) Touchstone Award 2025, for their role in Operation Stamping It Out. A pioneering hallmarking education and enforcement project, which is delivered by WRi Group on behalf of the London Assay Office.

Anna McLoughlin Fine Jewellery has been awarded the prestigious HALO Award in recognition of her innovative work to engage customers with the importance of hallmarking and consumer protection in the jewellery sector.

Goldsmiths North 2025 was a huge success with the show having a total of 53 exhibitors, footfall being significantly up and showing a huge increase in advance ticket sales. Overall, sales were very strong and a further improvement on last year's event.

This month here at Sheffield Assay Office, Assay Master Ashley Carson hosted the Standing Technical Committee of the International Hallmarking Convention.

The Silver Society is pleased to announce the launch of its Annual Prize for 2025. The Prize of £2,000 will be awarded to a silversmith working in the UK who is within the first five years of their career as a practising silversmith. The winner and runner-up will be offered free membership of the Silver Society for three years.
